Leighton Klassen CT (Arch)
Leighton Klassen (CT Arch) has been in the building design and construction industry for over 14 years, and brings experience in project leadership to the ABTAM Board. Leighton’s education includes a two-year diploma from Red River College in Building Design Technology. He holds Project Management Professional and LEED Green Associate designations. His career experience has included working for several local architectural firms, and coordinating projects as a contract administrator and project manager. He has been part of MHPM Project Leaders for the past 2+ years. Leighton was part of the ABTAM board for several years in the mid-2000s and re-joined the ABTAM Board of Directors early in February of 2015.
Stephane Chappellaz CT (Arch)

Stephane Chappellaz has been a member of ABTAM since 1998 and a Certified Senior Architectural Technologist since 2008. He has previously served the association as Secretary and President, and has been the Chairman of the ABTAM Certification Board since 2006. Stephane has worked with the largest architectural and engineering consultancies in Winnipeg as a technologist, specification writer, project coordinator, project manager, and construction contract administrator. He has leveraged this vast experience and developed into a building envelope specialist, currently working with the pre-eminent restoration group in the prairies. Stephane brings this professional experience and years of experience within the association to the executive council of ABTAM, as well as participating in other industry associations and committees.
Nick Dupuis had been a member of ABTAM since 2011. He graduated from Red River College in 2012 with honours in Building Design CAD. Since graduating he has been working at a local firm in Winnipeg. Nick has left his mark on some numerous commercial buildings, commercial developments and multi-family residence complexes in Winnipeg, around Manitoba and across Canada. He is excited to join the ABTAM board, not only to further his knowledge in the field, but to help others advance their careers through certification.
Mark Rootsaert CT (Arch)
With extensive experience in the field, Mark Rootsaert, is a certified Architectural Technologist who brings an impressive depth of knowledge to projects of all scales and typologies. His background includes a wide range of work, from hotels and churches, to assisted living facilities and banks, and includes new-build, renovation, and remediation efforts. Informed by this history, Mark brings an unparalleled level of expertise and an eye for detail that brings significant value to his clients and their user groups.
Mark’s portfolio of work includes contributions to a variety of high-profile buildings within the City of Winnipeg, including the Winnipeg James Richardson International Airport, Investor’s Group Field, numerous downtown office buildings, and the University of Manitoba. He excels at surveying architectural elements and their conditions including site, building envelope, interior finishes, fire protection, accessibility and life safety systems. He is an active member of Youth Construction Leaders of Manitoba and of the Architectural and Building Technologists Association of Manitoba.
Bailey Wall has worked in the architectural industry for seven years. She graduated from Red River College’s Drafting/CADD Program with honours in 2015 and is working towards obtaining her certification through ABTAM in the future. Bailey is also currently pursuing her Project Management Professional designation after graduating from the Project Management Program at Red River College in June of 2016. She joined the ABTAM Board of Directors in 2015.
Carol Taylor joined ABTAM in April 2011 as the Administrative Assistant. Carol has earned her Certificate in Municipal Administration from the University of Manitoba in 2007. She has over 15 years of experience providing administration and support across multiple non-profit, private and public sector settings. Including education quality improvements, child and family services, and program, planning and development for Northern Manitoba communities.
Carol's core responsibility is working with the Executive to exercise their powers as a Board of Directors with competence and diligence in the best interests of ABTAM.
